Deshedding Services at Big Paws

Big Paws deshedding grooming services help keep your pet’s coat and skin shiny and healthy in every season. Using expert techniques and all-natural products, our certified groomers ensure your pet receives relief from loose hair, matting, and skin conditions.

As the seasons change, your pet’s coat adapts by growing new hair and releasing dead, loose hair. This natural process, otherwise known as shedding, is why hair falls to the floor of your home and collects in corners.

This process is also crucial for the comfort of your pet. By growing denser fur in winter and shedding excess hair in summer, your furry friend can maintain their body temperature and protect their skin. When loose hair refuses to let up, it can build up over time, causing discomfort, matting, and even skin infections.

Regular grooming sessions and semi-regular deshedding treatments can help!

We Offer Deshedding Services For:

Smooth or Short Coats: Though shedding tends to be less severe for these breeds, including boxers and pugs, deshedding services can help their single layer of fur effectively protect them from external elements.

  • Double-Coats: Deshedding services are especially crucial for these breeds, as they have a protective top coat (guard hairs) and dense, insulating undercoat. While many of these breeds are long-haired, like German shepherds and huskies, shorter-haired breeds like labradors also have double coats.

  • Curly or Wavy Coats: It’s a myth that poodles and doodles don’t shed! While they shed less, the presence of dense curls prevents dead hair from falling to the ground. This makes regular deshedding even more important.

  • Long, Silky Coats: The closest thing a dog can get to human hair, these breeds have straight, soft, fine locks. While they shed less, you should bring them in for deshedding services at least twice a year. Common breeds with this coat type include Yorkies and Afghan Hounds.

Full Groom including a tailored hair style

A "full groom" is a comprehensive service that encompasses various grooming tasks to ensure a dog's overall cleanliness, comfort, and appearance. The exact components of a full groom can vary depending on the dog's breed, coat type, and your preferences, but it generally includes the following key elements:

  1. Bathing: Your dog is given a thorough bath using appropriate dog shampoo and conditioner to clean the coat, remove dirt, odors, and loose hair.

  2. Drying: After the bath, your dog is carefully dried using towels and a professional pet dryer to ensure the coat is completely dry.

  3. Brushing and Detangling: We will brush and comb your dog's coat to remove tangles, mats, and loose hair. This helps maintain a healthy and shiny coat.

  4. Haircut or Styling: Depending on the dog's breed and your preferences, the full groom may include a haircut or styling. This can range from breed-specific trims to creative and customised grooming styles.

  5. Nail Trimming: We will trim your dog's nails to an appropriate length, which is essential for their comfort and paw health.

  6. Ear Cleaning: The ears are cleaned to remove dirt and prevent potential ear issues.

  7. Paw Pad and Sanitary Area Trimming: We will trim the hair around the paw pads and your dog's sanitary areas for a neater appearance.
